Does Harry Potter Get Married?

Harry Potter’s love life has been a complicated one throughout the series. As a result, many people who are new to the series wonder whether he ever gets married and if so, who he gets married to.

Harry Potter does eventually get married to Ginny Weasley, Ron Weasley’s younger sister. The two had a running romance before Harry decided to break up at the death of Dumbledore. However, they did get back together and in the final move, they both are seen together, waving their children goodbye.

In this article, we will answer all your other questions about Harry Potter’s love life and marriage.

Does Harry Potter Get Married?

When you first meet Harry in these books, he is a young and naive boy who has no romantic interests at all. He paid more attention to his friends, his schoolwork, and his hatred of Malfoy, in addition to his hatred of Snape. It wasn’t until his third or fourth year that he experienced his first crush.

Most people recall his wanting to compete in the Triwizard Tournament in fourth year so he could win the heart of Cho Chang, a girl from Ravenclaw. He had grown a crush on her and mustered up the nerve to ask her out as Yule Ball approached.

She broke the tension by saying she was going with someone else, and Harry went back to the common room feeling a range of emotions, the most prominent of which, in our perspective, was anguish at the prospect of losing her.

Harry’s dislike for the Hufflepuff superstar Cedric grew after he saw him dancing with Cho at the Yule Ball, but after Cedric’s death, Harry had the opportunity to talk to Cho, in the Order of the Phoenix. While his heart broke for Cedric, Cho’s did, too, and yet she still said yes to Harry’s proposal.

It appeared as though Harry had finally found the love of his life in Cho, but to most people’s disappointment, the relationship did not last. Harry became angry with Cho’s friend, and when Cho tried to protect her, Harry ended things.

That event isolated Harry to the point where he didn’t find anyone he liked until the arrival of the Half-Blood Prince. Harry’s jealousy over Dean and Ginny led him to finally admit his affections for the youngest Weasley sibling. Ultimately, he was successful in tearing the couple apart, and he even managed to win Ginny over by the book’s end.

When Harry ended things with Ginny at Dumbledore’s funeral, Ginny was devastated. After they had their moment apart, Harry did eventually get back together with her. The kiss that they shared sealed the deal and made things official.

Following the events of the Battle of Hogwarts, the Potters settled down, got married, and had three children: James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter, and Lily Luna Potter.

After 29 years, the series ends with Harry and Ginny seeing their children go to Hogwarts. In the distance, Ron and Hermione can also be seen waving their children off to Hogwarts.

Why Didn’t Harry Marry Luna or Cho?

Simply put, he just wasn’t right for Luna or Cho romantically.

He went on one disastrous date with Cho before realizing that they were fundamentally incompatible. Ron nailed it when he remarked that Harry needs a “more cheerful” partner. Also, Cho wanted a partner who would allow her to express her feelings and be emotional.

Luna may appear to be the more compatible choice, but Harry always seemed a little uneasy with her. Actually, he learns to like her for who she is. He even goes so far as to say that she and Neville are two of the coolest people at Hogwarts, which is quite different from the beginning of the series, where he was a little embarrassed to be seen with them.

He tries to connect with her, but his lack of insight into her and her compulsive behavior make that difficult. They are quite similar to Cho in that respect; he does not share her interests. The main reason that a romantic partnership between these two wouldn’t work is that their relationship could not be considered equal.

Harry always seems to take more than he provides in his relationships with others. It’s not that he wouldn’t give his life in an instant to protect the people he loves. He wouldn’t think twice about putting himself in danger to save a total stranger.

But he’s terrible at providing emotional support and rarely shows interest in people’s lives outside of his own. He’s kind and welcoming, yet he keeps to himself because he’s too preoccupied with his own troubles to give any thought to anyone else’s.

Was Harry Going to Marry Hermoine?

It was J.K. Rowling’s intention from the beginning for Harry to marry Ginny, while Hermione would end up with Ron. There was never any intention for Harry and Hermione to tie the knot. She “wouldn’t marry Harry to Hermione to please anyone,” according to Louisa May Alcott, even if an army of Harry/Hermione shippers had tried to convince her otherwise.

On the other hand, in a 2014 CNN interview with Emma Watson for Wonderland magazine, J.K. Rowling discussed the friendship between Hermione and Ron. The author has expressed her belief that Hermione and Harry should have tied the knot at some point during their relationship.

Rowling has admitted that she regrets not giving Harry and Hermione a happier ending, but she has also stated that she feels Ron and Hermione make a nice couple. Although Emma Watson has had a varied acting career, her role as Hermione in the Harry Potter films will forever be associated with her.

Conclusion

  • In conclusion, Harry eventually does get married. However, to the disappointment of many fans around the globe, he does not get married to Hermoine, Luna, or Cho, but instead to the youngest of the Weasley siblings, Ginny. Although you may have wanted this to end differently, we believe all is well that ends well.
