Why are Collecting Cards so Popular? 

Every millennial has a shoebox or two, shoved away in their attic, filled to the brim with collector cards of their favorite franchise; sports, Pokémon, magic, etc.  

Ever since the 1990s, fans of various franchises have been obsessed with collecting cards associated with their franchises. This is because it increases the amount of merchandise one owns for their favorite franchises. It also happens to be a way for the fans to express their excitement and adoration for the things they like.

The biggest market for collecting cards has been sports, Pokémon, and Magic but others like Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon have also released their collecting cards. Collecting Cards has always been a popular hobby for people to show off the extent of their interest in their fandoms. However, there was a sudden increase in this hobby of collecting cards in 2020.  

Despite there being a global pandemic, people’s renewed interest in collecting cards kept increasing. 

Collecting Cards Surged in 2020 

The pandemic brought with it a wave of uncertainty. A lot of people felt disconnected from their realities, as they were so painful. During this time of being locked inside their homes, people wanted ways to comfort themselves. One of those ways was to reconnect with one’s childhood.

This is why a surge can be seen in the Collecting Cards immediately after the advent of the pandemic. Around the world, people reverted back to their fondest childhood memories.  

Social Media and Content Creators  

The saving grace for people during the pandemic was their reliance on their hobbies such as childhood interests, media content, arts and crafts, etc. For a lot of people, at least two or more of their hobbies felt interconnected when their favorite influencers and content creators started posting content about their own Collecting Cards. A lot of them were seen rummaging through their old boxes and albums to showcase their own collections.

Content creators like Andrew Caroselli, Logan Paul, and Phil Lester, among others, showed off their old collections, looking for rare cards. They also bought new packs of Collecting cards, which they unboxed online, looking for rare cards. A lot of the content creators, bought and sold rare cards, while others only checked the values of their cards, leading up to around thousands of dollars.  

Monetary Values of the Collecting Cards 

During this time, a lot of people started checking the prices of their collecting cards online and they became a staple for trading. People spent a lot of money trying to collect rare cards and add those cards to their collection. While a lot of people allegedly did this for recreation, a lot of others did it for the purpose of investment.

Because of the dwindling economy, a lot of people wanted to invest in more secure items. This is why a lot of people invested their money in cryptocurrency, collectibles, or NFTs.

Whatever the reason may be, Collecting Cards have paved their way back towards popularity and this time around, they look like they’ll be around for a while.
