Why is The Office So Boring?

Are you looking for a new TV show to watch? The chances are that you’ve been recommended to watch The Office. However, after seeing it, you just couldn’t get into it for some reason. You might even consider it… boring. Worry not because we’ll tell you why that’s the case.

The Office can be considered boring by many people due to numerous reasons. This can be due to the annoyingly slow first season or the extremely dry and repetitive jokes and many obnoxious characters.

If you found The Office boring and cannot figure out why don’t worry because we’ll tell you why if you keep reading.

Slow First Season Start

Let’s start with the elephant in the room – Season 1 of The Office. The show’s start is supposed to make a lasting impact on viewers and should want them to crave more. Unfortunately, The Office didn’t do that. Not only did it fail to achieve that, but it also drove people away.

This can be credited to either the slow and dry start or the obnoxious lead character. Speaking of lead characters.

Michael Scott in Season 1

Without a doubt, Michael Scott is the best part of The Office. However, did you know that most people stopped watching the show due to him in Season 1? The producers of the show wanted to give Michael the image of an obnoxious and unrelatable boss.

Well, they succeeded but at the cost of people leaving the show. Compared to later seasons, Michael from Season 1 is almost unwatchable. He gets much better later, we promise!

Dry Humor

This one seems to be one of the biggest reasons why people stopped watching The Office. The people who love the show cannot stop quoting lines from the characters and will constantly tell you how it is the best show. You might have heard a “That’s what she said” once or twice from someone around you.

However, some people found the humor to be extremely dry. The lack of a laugh track didn’t help either. Viewers feel that the show has repetitive jokes and annoying characters.

Steve Carell’s Hiatus

If you managed to watch almost the entire show and still be bored, you’d have a tough time after Michael Scott (Steve Carell) leaves. He left after the seventh season of the show. Needless to say that the show got quite stale and boring after his departure. He was the backbone of The Office, and his leaving just broke the entire show.

Takeaway

We can see why The Office can be a stale and boring show for most people. However, if you have the time, we highly suggest that you give it another chance. Try to make it ahead of Season 1, and you’ll have smooth sailing from there. You can even skip the entirety of Season 1, and it wouldn’t make a significant difference.
