In April 2022, Tesla’s billion-dollar factory welcomed over 15,000 guests to experience music, cuisine, and a trip to one of the world’s biggest buildings by dimension. Tesla’s Fremont, California, the factory is among the most advanced automotive plants in the world, with 5.3 million square feet of manufacturing and office space on 370 acres of land.
Tesla offers factory tours to Tesla owners Monday through Friday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. Weekends and major holidays are not available for owners’ tours. The tours last about 60 minutes. Tesla owners are permitted to book one tour per calendar year.

What Does The Factory Look Like?
The Fremont factory now employs nearly 22,000 people. Prior to Tesla, the facility housed General Motors from 1962 to 1982, then GM and Toyota’s New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc (NUMMI) from 1984 to the end of the partnership in 2009.
Tesla purchased the facility in 2010 and re-modeled it extensively before the first Model S rolled off the assembly line in June 2012. Tesla incorporated skylight fixtures to let in natural light to workers and coated the floors with white epoxy to create a clean working atmosphere to brighten what was once a dark, enclosed space.
There is also an employee training centre, a cafeteria and food trucks, a gym, a 24-hour in-house medical centre, and outdoor patios. Tesla, as one of the country’s biggest manufacturing employers generated $5.5 billion in sales activity and $4.1 billion in direct spending in Fiscal Year 2017.
Tesla also created 51,000 jobs in California that year, including jobs for our employees and those in our supply chain.

How Many Factories Does Tesla Have?

Gigafactory Shanghai
Giga Shanghai is Tesla’s first foreign gigafactory, producing made-in-China Model 3 and Model Y automobiles. It should also be mentioned that it opened at the same time that the previous President Trump launched a trade war with China. This is especially noteworthy given that Giga Shanghai is China’s first foreign-owned facility.
Gigafactory Berlin–Brandenburg
There were several obstacles due to so-called environmental groups who did not want Tesla in the region. Although the adjacent coal plant consumes more water than Tesla would ever require, environmentalists were concerned about Tesla’s water consumption.
Tesla won. Elon Musk called this gigafactory the “jewel of the region, Germany, and the globe.”
Texas Gigafactory
Tesla’s sixth facility, Giga Texas, is located in the state capital of Austin. Everything is bigger in Texas, including the facility that will produce Tesla’s Model Y, Cybertruck, and Semi vehicles – the factory is massive and will become much larger when it is built out.
This is also the new worldwide headquarters for Tesla. This plant spans 2,500 acres along the Colorado River and has 10 million square feet of floor area. Tesla noticed that the western windows are built of 32-foot tall glass, which is ideal for viewing the sunset.
