Can You Scuba Dive To The Titanic? Important Facts

The sinking of the Titanic on the night of April 14th and 15th, 1912, is remembered as a tragic incident that took many lives. If you haven’t heard about the incident, you must have watched the film.

Unfortunately, one can not scuba dive on the Titanic. The Titanic lies 12,500 feet (3.81 kilometers) deep in Atlantic waters. You can scuba dive to a maximum depth of 400 to 1000 feet (0.3 kilometers) because of the underwater pressure. The external pressure is 380 times more than the surface, this will restrict our blood flow and constrict human tissue if we were to dive that deep.

If the water temperature is below fresh water’s freezing point, one can quickly die due to hypothermia, even with protective scuba gear. Low light conditions hinder visibility and create panic in divers. One scuba tank can last up to 15 minutes at 120 feet (0.04 km); it would be impossible to carry the necessary air supply, even with the support of a group.

The Titanic was first discovered in 1985 by Robert Ballad. Exploring the wreckage is a dream of many scuba divers, but only a few have been successful. The following are a few facts explained about the Titanic and scuba diving.

How Long Does It Take To Dive To Titanic?

1,100 feet (0.34 kilometers) is recorded as the deepest dive that was achieved with the help of bespoke equipment, training, and team support.  A group of scientists and explorers teamed up in 2019 to visit the Titanic by using a deep-sea submersible named “Limiting Factor.”

A total of 8 days were spent on 5 dives only.

It was the first time a crew had dived to the sunken ship site in nearly fourteen years.

Is The Titanic Still In The Ocean In 2022?

The sinking of the Titanic remains a widely acknowledged tragedy. Is the Titanic still in the ocean, or have we lost it to rust?

The Titanic has been in the North Atlantic waters ever since it hit an iceberg in 1912. It lies more than 3.22 kilometers below the surface. It is still in the ocean and has been declared a grave site for many who drowned.

Fortunately, the depth of the wreckage had preserved it well before it was discovered in 1985, and the wreckage was studied by scientists.

Are There Still Bodies In The Titanic?

For over 35 years, people have dived to the Titanic’s wreck.

According to RMS Titanic (the company that owns its rights), nobody has ever found human remains on the ship.

Explorers have found shoes and clothing on the ship that indicate the presence of bodies, but otherwise, there have been no bones or human remains.

Can You Visit The Titanic Wreck?

Scientists have figured out ways to explore marine life and will continue trying to discover more.

You can now visit and explore the shipwreck with Ocean Gate Expeditions, an expedition company that will take you to the titanic site, explore, and return safely.

A three-hour exploratory visit to the Titanic Survey Expedition will cost you around $125,000–130,000 for a three-hour exploratory visit.

Conclusion

Scientists reveal that the entirety of Titanic’s shipwreck will disappear by 2030 due to metal-eating bacteria. The wreckage is heavy; it is impossible to get the ship to the surface without disintegrating it. The ship is located 38.1 kilometers below the water’s surface, so you can’t reach it by scuba diving.

All hope is not lost, as technology keeps advancing, but the grave site will likely disappear before we get the chance to know more about it.
