Can Hulk Actually Beat Thanos? What The Comics Say

We have a Hulk is what Loki says to Thanos when Thanos invades the Asgardian ship and kills everyone on board in Infinity war. However, Loki’s arrogance about having a Hulk and marvel fans’ hopes about defeating Thanos is soon dissolved into nothing, as Thanos overpowers Hulk in hand-to-hand combat. Of course, this comes as a shock to many, as Hulk is the strongest avenger compared to the others.

Now, the chapter of Hulk vs. Thanos is closed in the films as Thanos died in Endgame, and that chapter concluded with Thanos overpowering Hulk. Automatically, it led fans to speculate whether Hulk can beat Thanos or not, according to the comics?

The answer is yes; according to the comics, Hulk is perfectly capable of beating Thanos. However, it depends on what variant of Hulk is fighting Thanos as every variant is different, and not all variants are powerful enough to take on the mighty Titan.

Thanos vs. Hulk: Who takes the win?

As mentioned, it depends on what variant of Hulk is fighting the titan, and on how long the fight lasts. Let’s tackle the latter first.

Now, if you aren’t already aware of this, you should know that Hulk was born out of an experiment gone wrong: the scientist, Bruce Banner, was exposed to a large amount of gamma radiation. However, Hulk’s powers aren’t constant to what he got at his origin; his powers are directly proportional to how angry he gets and how much adrenaline is pumping through him. Therefore, the longer the fight lasts, the angrier Hulk gets, the more adrenaline pumps through his veins, the more powerful he gets, and the more likely he is to win the fight.

Next, moving on to the former part of the argument: Hulk’s different variants. You might already be familiar with the Savage Hulk (the one we were introduced to in the movies), who has a child-like brain. Therefore, Thanos is likely to get a win if paired up against Savage Hulk as this Hulk tends to think less about his moves and strike solely driven by rage, which puts him at a disadvantage.

Then comes the Devil Hulk who is smarter than Savage Hulk, and gets his strength from Below-Place. However, he too has a lesser chance of defeating Thanos as in the comics the Devil Hulk has not had much experience fighting strong opponents like Thanos.

So far, the only variant of Hulk that can defeat Thanos, according to the comics, is the World Breaker Hulk. This Hulk originated when his wife from Sakaar died with his unborn child due to a warp core exploding. With this event, Hulk experienced a newfound rage, which was backed by strong feelings of mourning and grief, and therefore, the World Breaker Hulk is much stronger than its fellow versions. This Hulk defeated his Avenger teammates, crushing Thor’s skull in the process too.

Therefore, it is safe to say that though all Hulks might not be able to defeat Thanos, the World Breaker Hulk surely can. Thanos stands little chance against him without an infinity gauntlet or a combination of some excellent cosmic powers at his disposal.
